British Spirit
So today Cygnet gears up for it's open air performance of As You Like It in the beautiful grounds of Poltimore House, as part of the Ignite Festival..And yes, the heavens are opening in true British style! Luckily for the company, the performance can be moved inside - as hardy a team of actors they are, there is no fun in being a rain sodden audience member! more...
Lots of Activity
Busy at the New Theatre, Exeter with one tech under our belt already today and working on the second one at this present. more...
Under Stokes Croft
Jack Dean (writer and performer of the show). My show is more or less about home. What makes a home, how people define a place as their home, what supports that notion and what threatens it. For Dylan Thomas, home was the sleepy Welsh fishing village of Laugharne. For the people I write about, it is the decrepit, troubled but soulful suburb of Stokes Croft in northern Bristol, home to carnivals, graffiti and superb falafel wraps. more...
Dorian Gray
Tom Drayton (director, Picture of Dorian Gray): I’m writing this whilst handling the box office for our fourth show in London this week. I find I can sometimes panic in Fringe Theatre - juggling notes, warm-ups and the box office just before a show isn’t a task I’m used to, so I’m looking forward to coming back to the Bike Shed, where each company is incredibly well looked after. more...
The Travelling Talesman at The Rusty Bike
I performed quite a bit of The Raven And Other Underworld Journeys on a short tour last year so for the items I am keeping in the set it's just been a case of brushing the cobwebs off the appropriate braincells. Thankfully, The Raven still is sitting, still is sitting on the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door in my long term memory, which is just as well as it is hard to learn! more...
Big Society
Cally Hayes (writer, Big Society): So, what have we been up to? Well the answer to that is: quite a lot. Big Society is now beginning to take full form as an entire performance. In the past week we have been working hard (blood, sweat and tears...well maybe no blood) to get this show off the ground. Props, set and costume have all been noted and now it’s up to us actors to learn lines, lines and even more lines! more...
Inkling Productions at Oddfellows and The Rusty Bike
We have been very busy over here at Inkling Productions, with ‘Labyrinth’ finishing it’s mini-tour of Bristol and Gloucester and the revival of our 2011 show ‘Loose Tongues’. Rehearsals for Loose Tongues are in full swing with an all-new cast and we are once again delighted by the pool of creative talent in Bristol. We are under going a relatively short but intensive rehearsal period in Bristol and the actors are already virtually off-script. Behind the scenes, the publicity is coming together, flyers are ready to be printed, blogs/websites/events pages being updated, props and costumes being gathered and accommodation is being booked. We are looking forward to getting the show on the road and bringing it to Exeter for the 'Ignite' Festival. The audience should be ready for an even darker, funnier show and be prepared to be surprised more...
Rainbow
David Lockwood: This is exciting: we've got a city centre box office. An old children's shop is going to be transformed into the heart of Ignite for the duration of the festival. This is the place to get information on all of the shows taking place and buy some tickets. There may also be a little bit of live-video feeding going on from some of the venues. Thank you to Val Wilson, John Harvey and Neil Kennard for making this happen. more...
Second round
David Lockwood: Delighted to be able to announce that we've a second round of applications for the festival. A lot of companies have been in touch since the initial deadline of 6th January passed, and we've now been able to confirm a few non-theatre venues for extra work to be shown at. more...
Planning and programming
David Lockwood (Bike Shed Theatre): Essentially, I'm just writing in this to stop it saying 'TEST ARTICLE'. But whilst I'm at it, it seems like a good opportunity to announce what we're hoping this page will be used for. We're keen for all venues and all companies to have the opportunity to use this page, to comment on what they're looking forward to seeing, what they've enjoyed seeing and, for the moment at least, how they're preparations are going for the festival. We're keen to develop a dialogue between audiences and companies, to quickly find out which shows are worth seeing both from audience feedback and from other artists. more...
